Chart 1/3: Apocalypsis Project

Game principles

Apocalypsis is a free online massively multiplayer browser game with a persistent universe in a futurist anticipation background.

Apocalypsis is a spatial conquest game in which economy management and strategic development are playing a significant role. But Apocalypsis is above all a role-playing game in which diplomacy and interdependency between commanders is what is most important. Staying on one?s own planet to build spaceships won?t be interesting in Apocalypis because it is not a simple colonization game. Exchanges between commanders are far from being only based on war.

Actions take place in real time. During a few months, you will play in this universe, sending orders which will take hours or days to be automatically executed. For example, a resources transfer with the contraband market will take six real hours, although a military invasion will take 24 hours.

You do not need to download anything to play. That is why you can technically play Apocalypsis from any connected computer. We advise you NOT TO USE Microsoft Internet Explorer. Mozilla Firefox browser will allow you a better access to Apocalypsis, and prevent you from suffering display problems.

Project history

This project started in France on November 2004 after its three creators began to work on it.

  • programming and technical administration,
  • scenario and gameplay administration,
  • website and units design.

After a few month of discrete work, a first test game opened during May 2004. Its unique galaxy recruited between May and August more than 500 active players thanks to ?word of mouth?. Then, a reboot of the game took place in September 2005. This game, called ?beta2?, allowed us to implement an updated content.

In November 2005, we started to speak up for Apocalypsis on the Internet, in order to find more players. Because of the massive arrival of new commanders, we opened a second galaxy and moved to a non free server. Then, a third galaxy was opened a few months later. In order to correct bugs and to implement new items, it was necessary to start a new game on May 15 2006.

The current version, called “gammatest”, started on september 2007.

Current version: Apocalypsis “gammatest”

This new version remains a test version. That means occasional bugs, needs to change parameters, and short periods of unavailability of the game. Please note that administrators could not be blamed for those problems, because each registered player accepted this condition before register. We expect players to play their tester roles, signaling bugs and parameters problems. We like constructive and argued critics because in that way the game can only become better...

A free and clean game WITHOUT ANY ADVERTISING, growing only thanks to generous players’ donations.

Apocalypsis access is totally free. However, please keep in mind that Apocalypsis team are 3 students. Making the game has a cost: we spend a lot of time administrating and improving the game, and the game is hosted on a NON FREE server. We currently have to pay 430 euros a year. In order to support the game, and if you want it to stay accessible for a long time, we encourage you to make a donation. We implemented a simple support system allowing nice and satisfied players to easily make a donation. The amount of this donation is free. Please note that a donation does not give any playing advantage. A player choosing to support us is not ?buying? anything. He is ?donating?. Apocalypsis is free from any advertisement. This implies that ONLY DONATIONS ALLOW THE GAME LIFE AND DEVELOPMENT.
